Youth Development & Reentry
MENU
Our Foundational Principles and Programs
Home Away from Home provides transformative youth development and reentry programming, providing support, resources, and a safe community for young individuals navigating or transitioning from various life challenges, including incarceration.
The foundational principles of our work:
Through these foundational principles, Home Away From Home empowers youth to reclaim
their narratives, build resilience, and transition successfully into adulthood, ultimately
contributing positively to their personal growth, families, and communities.
Home Away From Home addresses the root causes
of challenges facing our youth and communities.

Youth and Reentry Focus.
We work with youth as young as ten, before many of them are caught up in the judicial system and before many are tempted with the enticement of gangs – which can be extremely challenging to leave. We are equally present for those who have faced arrest or expulsion, who are in or emerging from detention, and who will thrive with maturity and the right support systems in place.

Violence Prevention.
Our philosophy on violence prevention, like our philosophy on youth generally, addresses root causes, working to prevent youth from getting caught in gangs and in the judicial system in the first place, as well as working with those who are detained and transitioning from those challenges.

Conflict Transformation.
We facilitate conflict transformation efforts, seeking to transform a conflict from a destructive conflict-centered experience into a holistic, positive, relationship-centered experience and growth opportunity.
